TALK SHOW HOST REVEALS OBAMAS CONNECTION TO THE PLO!!!!
Category: News and Politics

TALK SHOW HOST REVEALS OBAMA CONNECTION TO TERRORISTS

There is a far-reaching scandal brewing for presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama, thanks to a radio talk show host based in Oregon. Syndicated talk show host Laurie Roth’s revelations make the news story about Obama’s relationship with a racist, anti-American pastor look like child’s play.

A top official at the Pentagon during former-President George H. W. Bush’s Administration and a former CIA intelligence officer maintain that Barack Obama and former Weather Underground honcho William Ayers funneled money to Professor Rashid Khalidi, a known terrorist sympathizer.

Khalidi serves on the faculty of Columbia University in New York and is best known as the professor who invited Iranian President Ahmedinejad to visit Columbia University after he finished his speech at the United Nations. According to confidential sources, Khalidi has direct ties to the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), a group on the US State Department’s list of known terrorist groups.

"One source for this information was once a top military figure in the 1990s. He doesn’t take making allegations lightly. If he says something happened, believe me, it happened," said syndicated radio talk show host Laurie Roth.

"Another source is a former agent for the Central Intelligence Agency, who is an expert in counterterrorism," said Roth, who broke the story on her show Friday night.
"I certainly don’t want to demonize someone because they are a woman, black or liberal running for President. I love the idea that in our culture, a black and woman can now run. However, it does matter to me with any candidate, their consistency with good judgment, their voting record, their association with people with questionable backgrounds and commitment to our country," she said during her show. To listen to Laurie Roth’s 3-21-08 show click here.

Here are the connections as described by very reliable sources, who possess impressive military, national security and intelligence backgrounds:
Allison Davis, who hired the young Obama into his small, Chicago law firm Davis, Miner, and Barnhill in 1993, left the firm in late 1999-2000 and became a housing developer. Davis went into business with Tony Rezko, the indicted businessman who’s scheduled to go on trial for corruption in Illinois, and who was a major fundraiser for Obama.

Davis met Rezko when he was a client of Davis, Miner, and Barnhill. Rezko is currently under indictment in Illinois for demanding kickbacks from companies seeking state government business contracts under Governor Blagojevich. Obama was identified as one of the politicians cited in the indictment as having received political contributions from Rezko out of his kickback funds.

Tony Rezko hosted fundraising events for Obama in his home and was on Obama’s US Senate campaign finance committee which collected $14 million for his campaign against conservative Alan Keyes, an African-American who served as an Ambassador during the Reagan Administration. In order to avoid a scandal during his presidential campaign, Obama returned $85,000 that Rezko and his family had donated to him.

In early 2000, while Obama served as a state senator in Illinois, he also sat on the board of the nonprofit Woods Fund. The Woods Fund is a Chicago-based foundation that claims its primary mission is to make financial grants in order to increase and/or create opportunities for disadvantaged people and low-income communities.

The chairman of the Woods fund board in 2000 was Howard Stanback, who like Obama also had connections to Davis, according to the reliable sources.

Davis submitted a grant request to the Woods Foundation for a $1 million investment in his development partnership, Neighborhood Rejuvenation LP, that would be used to finance low-income senior-citizen housing. Under normal circumstances, a board member is supposed to recuse himself or herself from decisions where they have a business or personal relationship.

Obama, who did not recuse himself, voted to approve Davis’ grant request. Stanback, on the other hand, abstained from voting. The housing project, which also received a $5.7 million loan from the city of Chicago, in turn donated almost $70,000 in political contributions to Obama’s presidential campaign.

In the past, Rezko gave Obama -- who served as an Illinois State Senator -- his first two political contributions in 1995, $1,000 each from two of his companies. In 1998, State Senator Obama wrote letters to city and state officials urging them to fund a Davis-Rezko housing project. It was an obvious quid pro quo arrangement.

Another major fundraiser for Obama is William Ayers, who also sat on the board of the Woods Fund with Obama and is a professor at the University of Chicago.

Bill Ayers, along with his wife Bernadine Dohrn, was an active member of the Weather Underground, a radical left-wing group that advocated violence against the United State. Both Ayers and Dohrn went "underground" in 1970 after others in the group accidentally detonated a bomb in a Greenwich Village (New York City) townhouse. The blast killed three of the group’s members including Ayers’ girlfriend at the time.

While Ayers and Dohrn were hiding from law enforcement, the Weather Underground participated in the bombings of the US Capital, the Pentagon and a State Department building. In 1981 Ayers and Dohrn turned themselves in to federal authorities, but all charges were dropped as a result of alleged "government legal misconduct." In his 2001 memoir, Ayers wrote, "I don’t regret setting the bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough.

Ayers and Dohrn are known to have held at least one fundraiser for Barack Obama in their Chicago home.
During Obama’s last year on the board of The Woods Fund (2002), he participated in awarding grants, including a $70,000 grant to the Arab American Action Network, a Chicago-based group founded by Rashid and Mona Khalidi.

In another suspected quid pro quo arrangement similar to those with Ayers and Rezko, Rashid Khalidi also held a fundraising event in his home for Barack Obama.

In the Middle East, Rashid Khalidi was known as a man to be reckoned with. From 1972 through 1983, Khalidi was the director in Beirut of the official Palestinian press agency, FAFA. His wife worked there as well.

According to sources, when the Khalidi’s left Chicago for Columbia University in New York, Rashid was honored with the Edward Said Chair in Arab Studies at that Ivy League university. Their goodbye party in Chicago included testimonials from Bill Ayers and Barack Obama.

"What other fund raising connections does Obama have? How many times can you look the other way in church and with fund raising situations with more than questionable people?" asked Ms. Roth.

"We all make mistakes in judgment with people and their backgrounds sometimes, but usually we learn and pick better friends and associates. How come Obama seems to have continued hanging around more than questionable characters with anti American backgrounds and some with criminal behaviors? Now one is being indicted, Tony Rezco, who raised a ton of money for Obama," she said.

"As President, how much would he look the other way when dealing with national security and dangers to our country? How much would he listen passively to terrorist leaders then lecture us on our ugly American status? This kind of change is not what our country needs!" added the popular talk show host, whose show is syndicated by USA Radio Network.

In a related story, during an interview on Thursday morning (March 20) with Black Panther leader Malik Zulu Shabazz, Fox News Channel viewers learned that Shabazz’ group endorsed and supported Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States. Even on Fox -- an organization wrongly accused of being "conservative" -- the interviewers were careful in their questioning of Shabazz, a recognized racist and anti-American radical.
The New Black Panther Party leader proudly announced on Fox News that his organization endorsed Obama for President.

"While some people may say that Barack Obama has no control over who endorses him, he should have control over what endorsements are posted on his websites," said Laurie Roth, who, besides hosting a popular talk show, is a regular columnist for
NewsWithViews. Com
"The endorsement of the New Black Panther Party was posted on Barack Obama’s website. Why was this tolerated unless Barack Obama wanted their endorsement? If he does not want their endorsement, how much control over his staff is he going to have once he’s elected President?" asks Mike Baker.

The New Black Panther Party is openly anti-White, anti-Jewish, and anti-America. After Obama’s Tuesday damage-control speech, his campaign pulled the Black Panthers’ endorsement story off their website.

It’s also been reported that Obama’s campaign staff was allowed to fly a Che Guevara flag inside his office, according to NewsMax.
"Do these revelations demonstrate a pattern of Barack Obama’s judgment? If so, then I do not want him dealing with world leaders. I do not want these groups having access to the White House. Do you?" asks the New Jersey-based political strategist.

"It appears the Barack Obama water carriers within the mainstream news media are on the job as usual -- ignoring another story that has the alternative media on the Internet buzzing: Obama’s embracement of an endorsement by the radical, racist organization," Baker added.

Kerry's Comrades

THE FOUNDATION

“Nothing is more essential... than that all persons employed in places of power and trust must be men of unexceptionable character.” —Samuel Adams

PATRIOT PERSPECTIVE

John Kerry: Unfit, period.

Jean-Francois Kerry and the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are at it again.

In October 2003, Kerry chose to make his disputed Vietnam war record as a Swift Boat “hero” the centerpiece of his campaign for the presidency. In doing so, he also called attention to his undisputed provision of “aid and comfort” to the enemy in time of war.

In response, a large contingent of Vietnam vets who also served on Swift Boats—some who served with Kerry, some who served in the same area as Kerry, and some who were Kerry’s former commanding officers (Grant Hibbard and George Elliott)—challenged Kerry’s record in a series of televised ads, and a book, Unfit for Command.

In all, more than 250 Swiftees, including Kerry’s entire chain of command, are on record as questioning his fitness to serve as Commander in Chief. Conversely, only three of Kerry’s 23 fellow officers-in-charge from Coastal Division 11 support him.

The Swiftees claimed that Kerry was “unfit to serve” because of his “willful distortion of the conduct” of American servicemen in Vietnam, and the “withholding and/or distortion of material facts” regarding his own service.

“The ads were produced to expose the braggart Kerry’s incautious claims about his service during the Vietnam War,” notes American Spectator editor R. Emmett Tyrrell. “That would be the war Kerry participated in briefly before coming home and traducing his fellow comrades in arms with vicious lies and distortions before the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.”

The Swiftees’ challenge also highlighted Kerry’s participation with the radical “New Soldier” movement, but Kerry arrogantly brushed off the challenge—and his presidential aspirations were dashed.

Two weeks ago, billionaire entrepreneur T. Boone Pickens, who had funded part of the 2004 SBVT ad campaign, renewed the challenge by offering $1,000,000 to anyone who could disprove any of the accusations made by the Swiftees in that ad campaign.

That was the setup.

In a letter to Mr. Pickens, Kerry responded, “While I am prepared to show the so-called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth lied on allegation after allegation, you have generously offered to pay one million dollars for just one thing that can be proven false. I am prepared to prove the lie beyond any reasonable doubt.”

Pickens countered Kerry: “In order to disprove the accuracy of the Swift Boat ads, I will ultimately need you to provide the following: 1) The journal you maintained during your service in Vietnam. 2) Your military record, specifically your service records for the years 1971-1978, and copies of all movies and tapes made during your service. When you have done so, if you can then prove anything in the ads was materially untrue, I will gladly award $1 million.”

That is the trap.

Of course, Kerry’s response has gotten plenty of media play in more than 300 articles sporting headlines like “Kerry Takes Vows to Disprove Swift Boat Claims,” and even Leftmedia editorials proclaiming, “Bravo, finally, for John Kerry. Beyond any doubt he served this country bravely...”

But no evidence refuting the Swiftees’ claims has been forthcoming, nor will it be. Kerry is banking on MSM credit for accepting the Pickens challenge without ever showing up.

Kerry is now ducking the challenge, claiming that Pickens’s request for bona fide documentation constitutes “selectively backing away from your original challenge, retreat, a new bet, and changing the subject.” In other words, if Pickens won’t just accept Kerry’s word as fact, Kerry will not accept the challenge.

The debate about Kerry’s “hero” status, including questions such as why his Silver Star has three different citations (none of which account for the degree of valor commensurate with the award), will likely never be adequately resolved. In fact, Kerry’s refusal to release his DoD Standard Form 180 and DD214, accounting for all his military citations, records and discharge from the military, has fueled the debate.

Kerry requested an SF-180 back in 2005, and the Department of Defense quickly obliged, so why all the obfuscation—why not simply release the entirety of his records? Perhaps, because those records would create more questions than they answer?

Kerry did provide some of his records to his hagiographer, Douglas Brinkley, and then claimed he could not release those records to the media because of an exclusive agreement with Brinkley. However, even Brinkley says that their agreement stipulates only that quotations from those records cite his book, not that Kerry was prohibited from releasing them otherwise.

The dispute about Kerry’s Vietnam conduct and citations notwithstanding, the real issue is not Kerry’s service record, but his traitorous actions between 1971 to 1978, when he was discharged from the Navy—which is why Pickens asked for Kerry’s service records for those years.

Was Kerry’s discharge revised in accordance with Jimmy Carter’s Executive Order 4483, which provided radical protestors and draft dodgers blanket pardons? Is that why his discharge was subject to review by a “board of officers” in accordance with Title 10, U.S. Code Section 1162 and 1163, which pertains to grounds for involuntary separation from military service?

Here is a sure bet: Kerry will not produce those records because he knows Pickens will use them to document our case against Kerry for treason, as outlined in the Petition to Investigate and Indict John F. Kerry for acts of treason.

Kerry provided “aid and comfort” to the North Vietnamese enemy during the Vietnam War, meeting in Paris with NVA communists while he was a commissioned Navy officer.

He has supported Communist dictators in Nicaragua and Cuba, and, more recently, his flip-flopping on Iraq and claim that those serving there are “stuck in Iraq” because they are too ignorant to do anything else have served to stiffen our enemies’ resolve.

At best, Kerry, by his own account of his actions and protests, violated the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the Geneva Conventions and the U.S. Code while serving as a Navy officer.

Most notable among his infractions would be the aforementioned meeting with North Vietnamese negotiators in 1970 and 1971, in which he willingly placed himself in violation of Article Three, Section Three of the U.S. Constitution, which defines treason as “giving aid and comfort” to the enemy in time of warfare.

The pertinent language states: “No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President... having previously taken an oath... to support the Constitution of the United States, [who has] engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”

It is likely that no action will be taken on the Petition to Investigate and Indict John F. Kerry for acts of treason while Kerry is a sitting senator, but if Pickens is able to obtain Kerry’s records and document his meetings with North Vietnamese principals, Kerry could be prosecuted for violations of Article Three, Section Three, and disqualified from any future campaign for national office.

Like Pickens, The Patriot is committed to holding Mr. Kerry accountable for his actions, as there is no statute of limitations for acts of treason. Indeed, we are all committed to serving Kerry with an irrevocable dishonorable discharge from public office.

Now, then, Mr. Kerry, about that million-dollar challenge from Mr. Pickens: We’re still waiting...

Quote of the week

“Good luck Boone, trying to get those military records. Kerry promised to release them [1,034] days ago, and an anxious nation (except for a few select reporters) still holds its breath.” —The Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto, who has kept track of the days since Kerry first promised to release his full military records to Tim Russert on NBC’s “Meet the Press”

On cross-examination

“Kerry has no way of knowing where this issue will go next, and unless he wants to take a chance of ending his mediocre political career, he should let sleeping dogs lie... Kerry is really hoping that the general malaise about him and this issue will allow him to ‘counterpunch’ without really having to produce any evidence. He is hoping that, in the public’s current antipathy for him, he will be able to ‘clear the record’ through the mere ‘acceptance’ of the T. Boone Pickens challenge alone, whether or not he ever takes any action moving forward... Kerry will produce no new evidence, but the MSM will gladly recall this effort as the ‘counter-attack that cleared his record’.” —Michael McBride, USMC (Ret.)

The BIG lie

“Mr. Pickens, I would be more than happy to travel to Dallas to meet with you in a mutually agreed upon public forum. I look forward to setting up a visit at the earliest possible, mutually convenient time.” —Jean-Francois Kerry, ostensibly accepting Boone Pickens’s $1,000,000 challenge. We suppose this meeting hinges on the meaning of the word “mutually.”

GOVERNMENT & POLITICS

News from the Swamp: Wasting time

In the Executive Branch: It’s deja vu all over again. After more or less ignoring the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for most of his term in office, President George W. Bush on Tuesday opened yet another “peace process” meeting of various Middle Eastern and world leaders in Annapolis, Maryland, perhaps seeking some sort of presidential legacy as he approaches the end of his administration. With significant arm twisting by the President, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas told a skeptical world that they were ready for the hard bargaining leading to a Palestinian state in the final 14 months of President Bush’s term. The President told Abbas and Olmert, “I pledge to devote my effort during my time as President to do all I can to help you achieve this ambitious goal.”

While it may be human nature, at least in the West, to be hopeful, reality must take precedent when it comes to life or death, and that is what Israel is facing. A large percentage of the Palestinian population, as well as some of Israel’s neighbors, do not want peace, but rather Israel’s destruction. Iran and Hamas have already pledged to thwart any peace deal. Israel’s negotiation with its enemies will be as fruitful as if the U.S. negotiated with the jihadis. In both cases, the goal of the other side, the destruction of Israel and the U.S. , is non-negotiable. To believe otherwise is suicidal. Until the Palestinian/Arab mindset is changed, these talks are little more than a dangerous delusion.

In the Senate: Trent Lott retires

Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS), who returned to the GOP leadership last November after spending more than four years in the political wilderness due to his unfortunate and vastly overblown comments at Strom Thurmond’s 100th birthday in 2002, announced his retirement this week. Lott pledged to be out of office by the end of the year, prompting speculation that he is looking to dodge the two-year ban on congressional lobbying by former members of Congress. He rejected the idea (we shall soon see), asserting that he ran for re-election last year only because he wanted to stay on to ensure Mississippi’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina. All things considered, we can’t say we’ll miss the former Ole Miss cheerleader.

Lott’s sudden departure has set off a race to replace him both in the Senate and its GOP leadership. Rep. Charles Pickering may be appointed by Republican Governor Haley Barbour to fill the seat until November 2008, when a Republican, again probably Pickering, is likely to win the election to fill the four remaining years of Lott’s term. It is likely that Conference Chairman Jon Kyl (AZ) will replace Lott as minority whip and that Lamar Alexander (TN) will replace Kyl as Conference Chairman.

In next November’s election, Republicans will have to defend 22 Senate seats, while the Democrats need defend only 12. Lott’s is the latest of several high-profile retirements that have handicappers speculating that senior Republicans don’t think highly of their chances to regain the Senate. Senate Democrats had $23.4 million in the bank by the end of October, compared to only $9.5 million for the Republicans. In the House, the fundraising gap is even larger, with Democrats holding a $26.44-million edge over the GOP. However, public approval of the Demo-led Congress is near a record low, and all the liberal posturing has produced little in the way of constructive legislation. A year from now, anything could happen.

In the House: Henry Hyde, 1924-2007

Former Illinois Republican Rep. Henry Hyde, long one of the most stalwart champions of the culture of life in the House of Representatives, died Thursday. Rep. Hyde, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this month, exerted tremendous efforts to protect the right to life of the most innocent during his 32 years in Congress. The 1976 “Hyde Amendment,” which barred the federal government from paying for abortions and has been approved every year since 1976, has saved some one million unborn babies. Hyde was also central in crafting the “Mexico City policy,” preventing international groups from performing or promoting abortion abroad as a condition of receiving U.S. taxpayer dollars. He served with integrity as House Judiciary Committee Chairman during the 1998 impeachment of former President Bill Clinton, stating at the time, “All a congressman ever gets to take with him when he leaves is the esteem of his colleagues and constituents. And we have risked that for a principle, for our duty as we have seen it.” A fitting epitaph, in his own words.

Bush invites Nobel Winner Gore to Oval Office

Al Gore may have received his Nobel Peace Prize for spurious scientific claims of global environmental catastrophe, but that didn’t stop President Bush from being a good sport by inviting him to a traditional White House reception to recognize his “achievement” with other more legitimate American Nobel laureates last week. They met privately before a public ceremony during which the rivals of the 2000 election stood next to each other for a photo opportunity that was by all accounts a bit stilted. Neither man would comment on their private moments together, but it is unlikely that Gore showed President Bush his infamous environmental slide show, or that he changed the President’s mind on the draconian market changes he believes should be enacted to save us from ourselves.

Campaign watch: Fred’s flat tax

Despite the Leftmedia’s penchant for portraying Fred Thompson as a lazy latecomer and campaign slouch, his policy proposals are certainly more concrete than those of most other candidates. We have already relayed his Social Security proposal. Now Thompson has announced a bold plan for tax reform. While other candidates wax eloquent about the need for tax reform, often offering zero-sum solutions (a tax cut here must be offset by a tax hike there), Thompson proposes abolishing the death tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax altogether, with no offsets. He also wants to cut the corporate rate from 35 percent to 27 percent. The boldest idea, however, is to offer a voluntary flat tax with two rates of ten and 25 percent, while keeping the current system of deductions as an option. Families of four would receive an allowance of $39,000 and pay ten percent on income above that up to $100,000, at which point the 25-percent rate would kick in. We’re no fans of the 25-percent rate—it’s not exactly flat if there are multiple rates—but it’s a start, and the voluntary component makes it especially attractive. Of course, Ron Paul proposes abolishing the IRS, and it doesn’t get much more concrete than that.

Campaign watch: Huckabee leads in Iowa

The pro-life populist candidate for president, Mike Huckabee, is now polling ahead of Mitt Romney in Iowa. The former Arkansas governor has largely campaigned under the radar, but his recent surge in the polls has brought new attention to his record as governor from 1996-2007—and it’s not the good kind. The Club for Growth, a free-market political action group, has given poor marks to Huckabee, who retorted by calling them the “Club for Greed.” They point to his signatures on hikes in sales, gas, cigarette and even nursing-home-bed taxes as evidence of his fiscal liberalism. He also advocated for Internet taxes. Also noted, however, were his efforts to pass an $80-million tax cut and other tax cuts. Still, overall tax burdens in Arkansas were 47 percent higher after his tenure. Huckabee’s strengths are his likeability and his socially conservative positions—positions, notably, that haven’t changed from campaign to campaign—and many Christian conservatives are apparently willing to look past his mixed fiscal and immigration records and his nanny-state advocacy.

One note about the Republican debate Wednesday: Don’t ask, don’t tell was the rule. CNN managed to slip in numerous questions from faux Republicans and outright Demo activists, including a question from Keith Kerr, a homosexual former Army colonel. Kerr demanded via video, “I want to know why you think that American men and women in uniform are not professional enough to serve with gays and lesbians.” As it turns out, while Kerr claims to be a “Log Cabin Republican,” he is actually a member of a homosexual steering committee for Hillary Clinton’s campaign. CNN’s moderator Anderson Cooper contends that CNN didn’t know about that, though Kerr’s “question” was somehow selected from the 5,000 submitted. Sounds almost... Clintonesque.

From the Left: Kennedy gets millions for memoirs

Sen. Edward Kennedy has signed a multimillion-dollar deal with Hachette Book Group USA to write his memoirs, although neither the senator nor his staff will confirm the exact amount. Kennedy, one of the longest serving members of the U.S. Senate (we’re still trying to figure out why), has been a leading voice of the socialist movement for decades, even after ducking out of responsibility for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne in 1969. The book is unlikely to go into the details of what really happened that night at Chappaquiddick or any of the myriad personal and political scandals Kennedy has been involved in over the years. Instead, we can expect a whitewash of how he has influenced American politics in the grand old liberal fashion like the gut-busting tomes of Bill and Hillary Clinton.

NATIONAL SECURITY

Howard loses re-election bid, Bush suffers?

Australia’s prime minister John Howard lost his bid for a fifth term last week to the Labor Party’s Kevin Rudd, and America’s MSM wasted no time in painting his loss as a blow to George Bush. They assume that Rudd’s platform is proof that Australia no longer wants to be America’s ally because Rudd plans to pull Australia’s troops out of Iraq and ratify the Kyoto global-warming treaty.

As usual, it takes some serious reading between the lines printed in the New York Times’ poison ink to get to the real story. In fact, Australia’s involvement in Iraq played almost no role in the election. For starters, Australia has so few combat troops in Iraq that one jumbo jet could fly them all out, so it is unlikely that their withdrawal will have any serious impact on our operations. Second, Australia intends to maintain its 1,000-plus troops in Afghanistan, so it is unlikely Rudd’s new government will completely reject being a partner in the war against Jihadistan.

It’s most likely that Howard lost the election after 12 years in office because the citizenry was simply ready for a change. That happens in democracies—compare the rejections of Churchill and De Gaulle after they won WWII, as well as Thatcher after the Cold War. Furthermore, Rudd made clear that he has no intention of changing the nature of his country’s relationship with the U.S. He even went as far as to recognize “our great friend and ally, the United States,” in his victory speech. We’re sorry to burst the Times’ bubble, but that’s hardly a blow to George W. Bush.

Warfront with Jihadistan: Saudi insurgency

Documents recovered during recent Coalition raids in Iraq have proved what most senior U.S. military leaders have known for four years: Our “ally” Saudi Arabia is providing more foreign suicide bombers, and vastly more money, to the insurgency than anyone else in the region. This is not surprising, as the Saudis are awash in oil money and in brainwashed young men raised in the medieval Wahabbi branch of Sunni Islam. While Iran continues to provide invaluable technical support, intelligence support, and weaponry to various Shi’ite groups in Iraq, al-Qa’ida continues to rely on suicide bombings as its only reliable means of reaching the evening news and depends on foreign Sunni fighters to carry out those suicide attacks.

This isn’t the first time Saudi Arabia has been a source of terrorist mischief. In the past the Saudis have openly provided money for Palestinian attacks on Israel, even holding televised fundraisers to subsidize the families of suicide bombers. The Saudis deliberately impeded the FBI’s investigation of the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing. And of course, 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi subjects. While Shi’ite Iran remains the number-one sponsor of terrorism worldwide, we should not forget that Saudi Arabia’s Wahabbi sect remains the driving force behind al-Qa’ida, the enemy in the global war on terror.

This week’s ‘Alpha Jackass’ award

“Even though I approved of Afghanistan and opposed Iraq from the beginning, I still resent that I was not asked or given the opportunity to support those soldiers.” —Bill Clinton this week in Iowa

“I supported the President when he asked the Congress for authority to stand up against weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.” —Bill Clinton in May 2003

And just for good measure: “I can support an action against Saddam Hussein because I think it’s in the long-term interests of our national security.” —Hillary Clinton in September 2002

Furthermore, Bill signed the Iraq Liberation Act in 1998, making it the official policy of the United States “to support efforts to remove the regime headed by Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq, and to promote the emergence of a democratic government to replace the regime.”

Wedding procession hijinks

This week Iraqi soldiers at a checkpoint stopped a two-car wedding procession, but this was no ordinary wedding. The soldiers became suspicious when the two-car procession at first refused to stop. On top of that, all the participants were men, except for the bride. Upon further inspection, the bride, dressed in a white gown and carrying a yellow-flower bouquet, appeared to need a shave. In fact, the “bride” and another man were on the wanted-terrorists list and were attempting a getaway. (We in our humble shop are wondering how they decided who would dress in the gown.) The Iraqi soldiers had a good laugh as they insisted the bride undress to prove his femininity. The unhappy couple is currently on their honeymoon under guard at Al Taji military base.

Profiles of valor: Army Staff Sgt. Ketterer

Army Staff Sgt. Clarence Ketterer was serving as a Squad Leader with the 1st Battalion, 125th Infantry Regiment of the Michigan Army National Guard stationed in Habbaniyah, Iraq. During a patrol, Ketterer’s team came upon Iraqi soldiers whose vehicle had been hit by a suicide bomber and were under fire from insurgents. Ketterer quickly left the shelter of his vehicle to help evacuate the wounded soldiers while coordinating a counter-attack against the enemy. While assisting the wounded soldiers into an ambulance, Ketterer returned fire with his weapon and led the ambulance to safety. For the Iraqi lives that he saved that day, Ketterer was awarded the Bronze Star with combat “V” for valor. Ketterer is currently a senior at Central Michigan University and is a campus Company Executive Officer for the ROTC.

BUSINESS & ECONOMY

’Predatory’ sub-prime lending

As the mainstream media love to remind us on a daily basis, the housing market is in trouble, with recent reports suggesting that the housing recession has begun to contribute to wider economic troubles. The problems have resulted primarily from chaos in the sub-prime-lending market, as marginal borrowers have been defaulting on housing loans at a staggering pace.

Obviously, nobody wants this sort of thing to happen, as both the lender and the borrower are hurt. There are plenty of incentives for banks and homeowners to be more cautious in the future. As usual, however, the federal government has decided that the market is not enough. The U.S. House passed the “Mortgage Reform and Anti-Predatory Lending Act of 2007,” ostensibly to curb predatory lending practices. The goal of the legislation is to punish banks for providing loans “that the consumer lacks a reasonable ability to repay, does not provide a net tangible benefit, or has predatory characteristics.”

The problem, of course, is that nobody has ever defined just what constitutes a “predatory” loan. When these laws have been attempted at the state level, the law of unintended consequences has inevitably struck every time. What was intended to protect low-income borrowers ends up hurting them—by making it ever more difficult to obtain loans, not to mention lowering home values for sellers. When banks are made liable for the poor decisions of borrowers, they naturally withdraw from marginal-loan markets—hurting low-income borrowers the most. The market is already punishing those who made unwise loans; government meddling, however well intentioned, ends up being predatory in its own right.

Regulatory Commissars: Cable TV and the FCC

It seems the Federal Communications Commission is taking a bit too seriously Ronald Reagan’s jest, “If it keeps moving, regulate it.” In a late-night meeting Tuesday, the Commission voted to extend cable-industry regulations, including those requiring cable companies to provide the FCC with comprehensive information on their number of subscribers. The measure, which passed only after heated debate, is actually a diluted version of FCC Chairman Kevin Martin’s original proposal, which would have moved toward implementing a national ceiling on cable ownership, with companies being limited to 30 percent of U.S. subscribers.

Still, cable industry leaders—and even some of Martin’s fellow commissioners—are anything but happy with the new regulations, calling them “unnecessary” and “completely unwarranted by the competitive marketplace.” Unfortunately, when it comes to government agencies, neither necessity nor warrant is prerequisite to imposing regulations. Rather, Washington bureaucrats believe the only justification they need is, “Because we can.”

Medicare’s doughnut hole

From the free-lunch files comes news that the law of unforeseen consequences isn’t always a bad thing. Medicare Part D drug-plan recipients will pay the first $275 as a deductible in 2008, with taxpayers paying 75 percent of the next $2,510 on the beneficiary’s covered drug formulary list until they reach a coverage gap known as the “doughnut hole,” during which beneficiaries must pay all drug costs up to $3,216.25 in out-of-pocket costs. Once a beneficiary exceeds the $5,726.25 coverage gap, Medicare then generally covers prescriptions at 95 percent for the remainder of the calendar year. Between three and seven million seniors may encounter the coverage gap next year.

Because Congress failed to anticipate the cost-savings motivation provided by the doughnut hole (somewhat like a delayed-onset-plan deductible for private health insurance), lawmakers unintentionally forced seniors to become more price conscious by shopping for less costly generic prescriptions. Naturally, the doughnut hole is unpopular with seniors and liberal politicians who wish to eliminate the gap, thereby dramatically increasing the cost of an already unsustainable government program.

Lost in the rhetoric over another overpriced government entitlement program is the fact that the doughnut hole actually helps to control program costs, and that seniors may purchase for a few additional dollars per month private Part D plans which cover the doughnut hole. Lawmakers considering tinkering with Medicare should make sure their latest cure isn’t worse than their perceived diagnosis.

CULTURE

Around the nation: Unreasonable search

The Boston Globe reports that local police will begin a program of searching homes for guns with the intent to empower parents afraid to confront unruly teenagers. No doubt that fear will vanish after the kid’s room has been searched. No warrant will be required, because a search can be done only with the homeowner’s permission. The police will go in groups of three, dressed in civilian clothes so as to not draw attention in the neighborhood (so please, don’t tell anybody about this program by, for example, publishing details in the newspaper). If a firearm is found, no weapons charges will be brought unless the gun is linked to a shooting.

Now, we’re all for helping parents out of a tough spot—after all, our governments are all about making sure parents have control over their kids, right? However, we are puzzled as to why a firearm found in a home could result in a criminal charge. What next, criminal charges for exercising free speech or religious practices in the home? Maybe the Supremes will answer that question for us this summer since they have decided to take up the 2nd Amendment case in Washington, DC. Plus, the ACLU is concerned that people may be intimidated into granting permission. A similar program in St. Louis had 98 percent granting consent. We have to say that we’re concerned to find ourselves in agreement with the ACLU, but maybe we can find a 12-step program for help. While the goals may be laudable, it seems just about every aspect of this plan is troubling.

’Non Compos Mentis’: Zero tolerance

Two students were suspended for ten days this week at Lee’s Summit West High School in Kansas City, Missouri, for allegedly using racial slurs. The students, one of whom is nearly an Eagle Scout, did not use the dreaded (dead and buried) “n-word,” nor did they say anything that was derogatory or racially offensive. Rather a group of students were having a conversation about what knots to use when tying drum equipment when the other “n-word” came up—“noose.” A black student overheard the conversation and told a teacher that he was offended. Clearly, these boys did nothing wrong. This ridiculous incident is yet another example of the “tolerance” of liberals’ beloved political correctness run amok. In reality—unfamiliar territory for liberals—political correctness, which is designed to undermine people’s rights to liberty and freedom of speech, is coming dangerously close to muting all conversation lest it be misconstrued as offensive. We can only imagine the next forbidden n-word.

Village Academic Curriculum: Fighting Sioux

In 2005, the University of North Dakota’s 70-year-old “Fighting Sioux” mascot landed the school on a list of those violating National Collegiate Athletic Association rules by displaying Native American names or images on team items at certain NCAA events. The NCAA claimed that “the time has come to retire Native American imagery in college sports.” Ironically, the NCAA’s headquarters are in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2006, after the NCAA rejected a subsequent appeal by the university, the school sued them and in a settlement last month, the school has three years to negotiate an agreement with two Sioux tribes. If an agreement cannot be reached by 2011, the university will be forced to find a new mascot. As for the Sioux Indians, they don’t seem prepared to smoke a peace pipe with the school over the “Fighting Sioux” mascot.

Faith and Family: More ‘brotherly love’

Convictions last about as long as campaigns for outgoing Philadelphia Mayor John Street. Despite being elected in 1999 on a platform of pro-family values stemming from his Seventh-day Adventist Christian Faith, Street recently officiated at a same-sex “wedding” for long-time political aid Micah Mahjoubian and his partner, Ryan Bunch. “Micah is my friend,” justified Street. “He has been in my campaign and has been in my administration for eight years... and if this is something he would like for me to do, then I’d like to do it for him.” Trying to keep the back door of escape open, however, Street argued that, given the fact that Pennsylvania does not recognize same-sex marriages or civil unions, the ceremony was symbolic only.

Nevertheless, Diane Gramley, president of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA-PA), noted, “Even though [Street] is insisting [that] the ceremony is not marriage, homosexual activists are viewing it as a political statement and a giant step forward in their quest for so-called ‘marriage equality’.” With re-election no longer a concern for Street, however, moral standards once highly regarded quickly give way to political favors—regardless of the consequences.

Frontiers of Junk Science: Warming and AIDS

As the over-estimated hurricane season whimpered to a close once again, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released its fourth and final report of the year on global warming. Investor’s Business Daily sums it up: “It is a ‘consensus’ in that it started with a foregone conclusion—that man-made pollution is dooming the planet—and gathered in any and all opinions that supported it. The report incredibly warns that the 630,000 cubic miles of the Greenland ice sheet will virtually disappear in the near future, raising sea levels by almost 30 feet, and the Amazon rain forest will become a dry savannah. There will be widespread species extinction, as up to three-fifths of wildlife will die out. The Great Barrier Reef will die. And, oh yeah, winter sports in the Alps will be a thing of the past.” Notably, a survey of American members of the IPCC revealed decidedly less than consensus on the cause of warming, or even its possible benefits.

As for the UN, its top AIDS scientists announced this week that their estimates on AIDS cases worldwide was off by 17 percent—33 million versus the earlier 40 million. The World Health Organization puts the number at 25 million. Helen Epstein, author of The Invisible Cure: Africa, the West, and the Fight Against AIDS, said, “There was a tendency toward alarmism, and that fit perhaps a certain fundraising agenda.” Now insert global warming into that sentence. If the UN can be that far off on AIDS, might they also be off on the climate?

And last...

Speaking of overdoing it with the eco-theology of global warming, 154 explorers set out for Antarctica to witness the phenomenon of melting ice caused by American SUVs. Instead, they witnessed the fact that ice is increasing in Antarctica, namely by running into an iceberg with their boat, which then sank. It gets better. The polar express, a 38-year-old ship named the MV Explorer, had a history of inspection problems and was owned by one Bruce Poon Tip, a follower, friend and supporter of the populist potentate of eco-theology, Al Gore. Meanwhile, The New York Times is worried: “While the rescue [of all 154 passengers] may have been a success, the consequences for the Antarctic’s fragile environment of having a submerged ship estimated to be holding 48,000 gallons of marine diesel fuel sitting off its coast are unclear.” Indeed, thanks to Al’s buddy, at the bottom of the ocean lies a carbon footprint nearly as big as Gore’s.

Australia's Prime Minister John Howard was voted out of office and the U.S. media blame — who else? — President Bush and the war in Iraq

THE FOUNDATION: INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

“States, like individuals, who observe their engagements, are respected and trusted...” —Alexander Hamilton

UPRIGHT

“The big news over the weekend was that a guy named Kevin Rudd won the election to be the Prime Minister of Australia. Rudd is the leader of the Labor Party and beat the incumbent John Howard whose Conservative Party had been in power for nearly 12 years. This was, of course, reported around the world as a defeat for... George Bush. EVERYTHING is reported around the world as a defeat for... George Bush.” —Rich Galen

“The pessimists and defeatists who declared the surge doomed and said we were digging ourselves into a deeper hole have been proven wrong. The story of Iraq now is that terrorists have been killed, captured or driven out of territory retaken and cleansed by American and Iraqi forces—a coalition that has stabilized much of the country.” —Donald Lambro Break “Leaders of the Democratic Party are unwilling to celebrate because they have invested all their political capital in the notion that America isn’t winning, can’t win and must not win. If voters were to embrace victory and not defeat, they would likely reject the Democratic presidential nominee, if only for demonstrating poor judgment.” —Cal Thomas

“No one contends that the other Amendments that preserve rights of ‘the people’ —the First, Fourth, Ninth and Tenth—do not preserve individuals’ rights. The same must be true of the Second.” —Jed Babbin

“If a CEO of a fortune 500 company were to retire, would anyone seriously consider his wife to be an adequate replacement simply because she was married to him when he ran the company?” —John Hawkins

“If you don’t like going to the DMV, imagine if the only place you could go to resolve a health care problem is some government agency.” —Rush Limbaugh

INSIGHT

“Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of readiness to die.” —Gilbert Keith Chesterton

“Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.” —Aldous Huxley

“A man who thinks of himself as belonging to a particular national group in America has not yet become an American. And the man who goes among you to trade upon your nationality is no worthy son to live under the Stars and Stripes.” —Woodrow Wilson

“Americans are so enamored of equality, they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.” —Alexis de Tocqueville

“Politics ain’t worrying this country one-tenth as much as trying to find a parking spot.” —Will Rogers

EDITORIAL EXEGESIS

“This week, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the case of District of Columbia v. Heller. In March, the Court of Appeals for the D. C. Circuit declared unconstitutional the District’s near-total ban on handgun possession. That 2-1 ruling, written by Judge Laurence Silberman, found that when the Second Amendment spoke of the ‘right of the people,’ it meant the right of ‘individuals,’ and not some ‘collective right’ held only by state governments or the National Guard. That stirring conclusion was enough to prompt the D. C. government to declare Judge Silberman outside ‘the mainstream of American jurisprudence’ in its petition to the Supreme Court. We’ve certainly come to an interesting legal place if asserting principles that appear nowhere in the Constitution is considered normal, but it’s beyond the pale to interpret the words that are in the Constitution to mean what they say... The phrase ‘the right of the people’ or some variation of it appears repeatedly in the Bill of Rights, and nowhere does it actually mean ‘the right of the government.’ When the Bill of Rights was written and adopted, the rights that mattered politically were of one sort—an individual’s, or a minority’s, right to be free from interference from the state. Today, rights are most often thought of as an entitlement to receive something from the state, as opposed to a freedom from interference by the state. The Second Amendment is, in our view, clearly a right of the latter sort.” —The Wall Street Journal

DEZINFORMATSIA

A lesson in obfuscation: “’The group’s purpose was to make it appear Al Qaeda in Iraq was responsible for the attack,’ Admiral Smith said, using the military’s name for Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia. ‘The special groups’ aim was to demonstrate to Baghdadis the need for militia groups to continue providing for their security’.” —The New York Times **“’Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia,’ of course, is the Times’s name for what everyone else calls al Qaeda in Iraq.” —James Taranto

It depends on the meaning of “values”: “On foreign policy, [Hillary] is a little more hawkish than the rest of the Democratic Party, and certainly more than the primary base is. It seems that on social issues, by which I mean kind of welfare and economic issues, she’s fairly liberal. But she’s a moral conservative. Which is to say that she also gets behind, you know, things like values issues.” —Time’s Amy Sullivan

Not exactly a sycophant: “And the part of the Clinton administration that worked best—the economy, stupid—was run by Robert Rubin. Hillary did not show good judgment in her areas of influence—the legal fiefdom, health care and running oppo-campaigns against Bill’s galpals.” —New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd

Definitely a sycophant: “If it’s not you, how disappointed will you be?” —CBS’s Katie Couric (aka the Clinton’s personal, gushing Useful Idiot) and her “in-depth” interview with Mrs. Bill Clinton—Hillary responded, “Well, it will be me.”

THE DEMO-GOGUES

Heaven help us: “There seems to be a pattern here. It takes a Clinton to clean up after a Bush.” —Hillary Clinton

On qualifications: “[T]here is one job we can’t afford on-the-job training for—that’s the job of our next president. Every day spent learning the ropes is another day of rising costs, mounting deficits and growing anxiety for our families.” —Hillary Clinton jabbing Barack Obama Break “My understanding was that she wasn’t Treasury secretary in the Clinton administration, so I don’t know exactly what experiences she’s claiming.” —Barack Obama jabbing back Break “There is no doubt that Bill Clinton had faith in her and consulted with her on issues, in the same way that I would consult with Michelle, if there were issues. On the other hand, I don’t think Michelle would claim that she is the best qualified person to be a U.S. senator by virtue of me talking to her on occasion about the work I’ve done. I think the fact of the matter is that Sen. Clinton is claiming basically the entire eight years of the Clinton presidency as her own, except for the stuff that didn’t work out, in which case she has nothing to do with it.” —Barack Obama

That’s the spirit!: “We can’t win militarily.” —Rep. Fightin’ John Murtha (D-PA) Break “The best way to achieve a political solution in Iraq is to withdraw our forces.” —Demo presidential candidate Bill Richardson

What a life: “I’ve been fortunate in my life to grow up in an extraordinary family and to have a front row seat at many key events in our nation’s history. I hope my reflections can contribute to a deeper understanding of many events in the history of this great country and to a more in-depth picture of an American family.” —Ted Kennedy upon being given a multimillion-dollar deal to write his memoirs

VILLAGE IDIOTS

This week’s “Sociocrat Sycophant” Award: “Hillary Clinton... is driven by her passion for public service and her belief in the enormous potential of our country. Smart, capable and strong in her convictions, Hillary has transcended the dictates of what is thought to be possible for our time. Hillary is a powerful voice for change as we find our country at an important crossroads. Under her leadership, our country will regain its respect within the global community. She will prioritize issues of global climate change, universal health care and rebuilding a strong economy. After eight long years, the public will once again have faith in their government.” —singer Barbra Streisand Break Then again...: “I think it’s going to come down to: Do you really want Bill Clinton back in the White House?” —Donna Brazile, who ran Algore’s 2000 presidential campaign**The prospect of another Clinton presidency reminds us of Streisand’s old song, “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough).”

Non sequitur: “This thing [the war] has been going on for so long, the [Bush] administration is reusing excuses. But hey, at least the administration can now claim it’s no longer hostile to recycling, right?” —Arianna Huffington on the war in Iraq

Gore more powerful than God? “Well, they need to be praying to people who will fix global warming and take care of the environment because that’s more realistic.” —“The View’s” Joy Behar, aghast that the governor of Georgia was leading a group prayer to God on the Capitol Mall for rain to fall on Georgia

From a warped mind: “[I]f the Bush administration didn’t think [waterboarding] was torture, they ought to do some personal investigation. Someone in the Bush family should actually be waterboarded so they could report on it to George... I suggested Jenna be waterboarded and then she could talk about whether or not she thought it was torture.” —author Stephen King

SHORT CUTS

“Words are always bad for liberals. Words allow people to understand what liberals are saying.” —Ann Coulter

“Brainy women don’t frighten voters; control freaks do.” —Howard Fineman

“If you’re looking for someone to get tough with Elizabeth Edwards or RINO senators or White House travel-office flunkies, Hillary’s your gal. But tough on America’s enemies? Thatcher-tough? Not a chance.” —Mark Steyn

“The problem with the process is obvious: It is getting harder for candidates not beloved by the national media and party establishments to compete. The solution, alas, is rather elusive. One thing is clear: If in 2012, the major parties choose 80 percent of their convention delegates on a single day the media breathlessly describes as ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Tuesday,’ we will be headed in the wrong direction.” —W. James Antle III

“The plain truth is that if guys like [Leonardo] DiCaprio, [George] Clooney and Robert Redford, were women, they’d be called bimbos.” —Burt Prelutsky

Hillary Clinton sang old hymns at Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines on Christ the King Sunday. They took up two collections to get her to stop singing. Whenever Hillary sings she sounds like a cat on its way to the tennis racket factory.” —Argus Hamilton

A Different Christmas Poem<br /><br /><br />The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, <br />I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. <br />My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, <br />My daughter beside me, angelic in rest. <br />Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, <br />Transforming the yard to a winter delight. <br />The sparkling lights in the tree I believe, <br />Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. <br />My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, <br />Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. <br />In perfect contentment, or so it would seem, <br />So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream. <br /><br />The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near, <br />But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear. <br />Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the <br />sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow. <br />My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear, <br />And I crept to the door just to see who was near. <br />Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night, <br />A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight. <br /><br />A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old, <br />Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold. <br />Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled, <br />Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child. <br />"What are you doing?" I asked without fear, <br />"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here! <br />Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve, <br />You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!" <br /><br />For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,Away from <br />the cold and the snow blown in drifts.. <br />To the window that danced with a warm fire's light <br />Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right , <br />I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night." <br />"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line, <br />That separates you from the darkest of times. <br />No one had to ask or beg or implore me, <br />I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me. <br />My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December," <br />Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers." <br />My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ', <br />And now it is my turn and so, here I am. <br />I've not seen my own son in more than a while, <br />But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.<br /><br />Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag, <br />The red, white, and blue... an American flag. <br />I can live through the cold and the being alone, <br />Away from my family, my house and my home. <br />I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet, <br />I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat. <br />I can carry the weight of killing another, <br />Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.. <br />Who stand at the front against any and all, <br />To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall." <br />"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright, <br />Your family is waiting and I'll be all right." <br />"But isn't there something I can do, at the least, <br />"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast? <br />It seems all too little for all that you've done, <br />For being away from your wife and your son." <br />Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret, <br />"Just tell us you love us, and never forget. To fight <br />for our rights back at home while we're gone, <br />To stand your own watch, no matter how long. <br />For when we come home, either standing or dead, <br />To know you remember we fought and we bled. <br />Is payment enough, and with that we will trust, <br />That we mattered to you as you mattered to us." <br /><br />Please, Would you do me the kind favor of sending <br />this to as many people as you can? Christmas will <br />be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S.<br />service men and women for our being able to <br />celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way <br />to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop <br />and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed <br />themselves for us. <br /><br />LCDR Jeff Giles, SC, USN <br />30t h Naval Construction Regiment <br />OIC, Logistics Cell One <br />Al Taqqadum , Iraq.

HOW HILLARY WILL GO NEGATIVE

By DICK MORRIS

Published in the New York Post on November 27, 2007.

As her once-formidable lead in national polls dwindles and Barack Obama moves ahead of her in the all-important Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, Hillary Clinton will likely intensify her negative campaign against her rivals.

The Clintons' political MO has always had a good dose of negative campaigning, especially when the going gets rough. There's no reason to assume that they will alter their game plan now.

I remember Bill's race for re-election as Arkansas governor back in 1990, when he found himself falling behind Hal McCrae, his unknown Democratic primary opponent. After Clinton's 10 years as governor, McCrae's attacks - featuring Daliesque stretched-out clocks tolling the time for him to go - were hitting home. Hillary decided to attend McCrae's next press conference and engage him in a public, impromptu debate about his attacks on her husband. She gave as good as she got - and her foray marked the start of a four-week campaign of negative ads that brought McCrae down.

The Clintons used negative ads and attacks in each gubernatorial campaign - and, of course, in Bill's two races for president.

Until now, the '08 Democratic contest has been a referendum on Hillary: The basic decision facing voters has been: Would you vote for her? The Clintons need to get people thinking about whether they like her rivals any better.

Negative ads would do the trick - but at a price: By attacking an opponent, they'd concede that Hillary isn't inevitable. That would give Obama (or John Edwards, should they decide to aim at him instead) added credibility - and perhaps more access to funding and contributions.

Historically, such considerations have never deterred the Clintons - who are always ones to anticipate their adversaries' strength rather than to belittle it.

How will they do it?

Their favored method of getting out negative material about their foes is to hire private investigators to dig up dirt, which they then release through feeds to friendly journalists.

Consider the Lewinsky scandal. When Linda Tripp got to be a danger, the Clinton people released her Pentagon personnel file to Jane Mayer (then a reporter for The New Yorker). A federal judge later reprimanded two Clinton operatives for this violation, and the government had to pay Tripp more than $600,000 - but the damage was still done.

Meanwhile, Clinton staffer (and Hil- lary favorite) Sidney Blumenthal peddled the line that Monica was a stalker to journalist Christopher Hitchens. And White House operatives told ABC News' Linda Douglas of incoming House Speaker Bob Livingstone's infidelity scandal before it was made public.

In the '92 presidential campaign, the Clintons openly disclosed their use of private detectives to dig up ammunition on women who had accused the presidential candidate of having affairs with them, disclosing that they paid detective Richard Palladino over $100,000 in campaign funds. But, of late, they avoid such embarrassing disclosures by hiding their detective bills in their legal expenses.

The likeliest theme of the Clinton attack will be Obama's inexperience. They'll seek to portray him as naive and way over his head in a world of terrorists and threats. But the risk here is that a woman is normally seen as weakest in the military/national security arena, so Hillary might find it difficult to make the issue work for her.

A better choice might be to argue that her political experience (i.e. in defeating the GOP "attack machine") makes her the better candidate for the November election. With the Democrats anxious for victory, using Obama's politeness and gentility against him could be an effective strategy.

She would, in effect, suggest that he is too nice to beat the Republicans - an accusation she can be confident nobody will ever make about her.

Topic: LIFE

Dear Louis,

From time to time, we have updated you on Kinneret Chaya, the beautiful young ballerina who was a victim of a terrorist bombing.

When I visited last with Kinneret Chaya, she told me that on the 30th of March 2002 she was reborn out of the flames. Later, she took her father aside and told him, "Daddy, it's not true. Kinneret disappeared in the flames and Kinneret Chaya (Kinneret Lives) was born."

Now, Kinneret is marrying her sweetheart, the man who has stayed by her side throughout this unspeakable horror that she has endured.

In Kinneret’s own words:

November 27th will be the day none of us dared to think about, and it is your support and love, Mike, over the last years that gave me the confidence to reach out to this special day - the dream of every young woman - to walk on my parents arms toward a man that I love.

As I stand under the chuppah I will think of you and what you did to get me here. I am no longer Kinneret Chaya - survivor - I am Kinneret Chaya Boosany, bride.

(We have enclosed a copy of Kinneret’s beautiful wedding invitation in Hebrew.)

Carolyn and I are going to send a generous gift to help this young couple cope with the ongoing medical costs for Kinneret’s care. Please join us by sending a generous gift today.

Read Kinneret’s story below.

Kinneret Boosani, youngest of 3 daughters to Moshe and Yaffa, was 23 years old, a professional dancer and a student of alternative medicine. Exceptionally beautiful, heads would turn wherever she went. To earn extra money she worked as a barmaid/waitress in a small coffee shop on Tel Aviv's Allenby Street.

One evening a young man walked in to "My Coffee Shop," and she walked toward him asking if he would like a cup of coffee. As she neared him, he exploded the belt wrapped around his body killing himself and creating havoc and gore around him. When the ambulances arrived, the coffee shop was devastated, but few people were injured since it was early and not yet full. Itsik Kohav, the paramedic who came with the ambulance, was searching the area when he saw a leg sticking out from underneath the upturned bar, flames all around from the alcohol which had ignited from the bomb. Instinctively, using all his strength, he lifted the bar to find a young woman underneath. She seemed unaware of her injuries, but Itsik knew she had little chance of survival. She did not complain on the short ride to Ichilov Hospital Emergency Room. In the ER concerned doctors gave Kinneret a 2% chance of surviving the night. Kinneret's sister Anat was the one who realised something was amiss when Kinneret did not answer her cellphone after the inevitable call to see if she was alright. It was Anat who found Kinneret in the hospital and alerted her family. Itsik Kochav did not leave her side, as the family gathered. A Rabbi visited Kinneret that night and told the family to add another name to Kinneret and so Kinneret became Kinneret Chaya – “Kinneret Lives.”

It was 88 days before Kinneret Chaya breathed alone, longer till she ate, bathed, stood, walked or dressed alone. Her family never left her side for a whole year of terrible doubt as to her survival. They lost their jobs and at times their sanity. Each and every person injured in a terror attack has at least ten people within their direct personal ripple effect. An attack injures families and communities; the physical is only a part of the whole.

Kinneret Chaya still only has one fully operating lung, sees in only one eye and hears in only one ear, and her body bears the terrible scars of burns over 85% of her skin, and she spends time in a heavy pressure suit and face mask to prevent the scarring getting even worse. She cannot go out in the day because the sun has become her enemy. However, Kinneret Chaya no longer hates herself when she looks in the mirror and all she wants is to enter a room and the same people who once went "wow" at her beauty will not say "oy" at her scars. She is a fantastic young woman who tries to help those she feels are worse off than she. She studies Kabala, still holds left wing views and travels over the world to speak to groups about her survival. She has many years of agonizing surgery ahead of her but she is an articulate and wonderful young woman.

Please, God, may her scars all lessen and her outer beauty reflect her inner beauty. To see her today is to understand that even a terrorists' hatred cannot take away the beauty of her smile.

As I knelt before this wonderful girl, I told her two things: one that she could take her experience and learn from it. In life such tragedies teach us to be either bitter or better, always choose better and turn your scars into stars. I also told her that she has an angel on her shoulder. God was watching over her that night and had big plans for her future. Never ever call Kinneret Chaya a victim, she is a survivor.

In Kinneret Chayas words, "Kinneret died that night in the flames, but Kinneret Chaya was born."

Today Kinneret Chaya lives a full life as a documentary film editor. She works at home so that her fragile skin does not see the sun. She has undergone numerous operations to restore her face, and she goes through it all with enormous grace. Kinneret Chaya still suffers but her smile, glorious teeth, and beautiful full lips are miraculously still as they were before; no, that is not true, it is wider because today she knows why she is alive.

Thank you for caring,

Mike Evans

Topic: NEWS & POLITICS

Vets for Freedom members,

There is no denying it anymore—even the mainstream media is reporting the incredible progress in Iraq, and giving credit where credit is due: General Petraeus's new counter-insurgency plan and the local political progress it has enabled.
  • On November 18, the Washington Post editorialized that "By every metric used to measure the war…there has been an enormous improvement since January."
  • In this week's edition of Newsweek reporter Rod Nordland writes upon his return to Iraq that, "I can actually say that things do seem to have gotten better, and in ways that may even be durable… There hasn't been a successful suicide car bombing in Baghdad in five weeks… Al Qaeda in Iraq is starting to look like a spent force, especially in Baghdad ."
  • And the New York Times actually reported that, "Casualties suffered by Iraqi security forces…were down 40 percent since the beginning of the troop reinforcement plan. Civilian fatalities in Baghdad …were down 75 percent in recent months. In some areas, the attacks have not been so low since the spring and summer of 2005."
To Vets for Freedom members, these facts come as no surprise. But, apparently, the leadership in Congress still doesn't get it. Despite overwhelming progress in Iraq , Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Harry Reid continue to play politics with the troops…and their wartime funding.

General Petraeus's new strategy is working and our troops are routing Al Qaeda and making incredible progress in Iraq . Our troops, along with our Iraqi allies, are certainly doing their part—so why won't Congress act?

THIS WEEK'S ACTION ITEM – WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR

This week, we urgently need all Vets for Freedom members to write a short Letter to the Editor in their local newspaper, talking about the progress in Iraq and encouraging their member of Congress to fund the troops—without timelines or deadlines for defeat.

In order to make this easy, Vets for Freedom has invested in new technology to make writing to your local newspaper easier than ever! Just follow these 3 easy steps, and you're done:
  1. Go to the Vets for Freedom homepage and click on the "Contact the Media" button on the right.  It's the button with the rotating newspapers.
  2. Enter your Zip Code and click on the local newspaper (or newspapers) of your choice.
  3. Compose a letter (200 words or less) and send it to your paper through our site.
It's that easy! We have also provided suggested bullet points in the "Letters to the Editor" section that you can use to craft your letter. We have included the most important three points below:
  1. As a direct result of the new counter-insurgency strategy implemented by General David Petraeus, real and sustainable progress is being made in Iraq .
  2. General Petraeus, and all 160,000 troops in Iraq , deserve immediate funding-without timelines—in order to continue defeating Al Qaeda and Iranian-backed militias.
  3. Without money from Congress, our troops will not have the ability to complete the mission and leave behind a stable Iraq , especially in a timely manner.
For even more material, visit the Vets for Freedom website to see our "Progress in Iraq" section and get the latest facts about both military and political progress in Iraq .

We are winning the war in Iraq – and the American people need to hear about it. Do your part to ensure that they read about it in the paper this week. It's the least you can do, and it does make a difference.

Move out and draw fire!
